Regarding the history of UNICEF using the Halloween trick or treating ritual to establish a charitable tradition of fund-raising, Look To The Stars reports,

For 60 years Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF has served as the Original Kids Helping Kids campaign for generations of American children providing them with the most impactful way of making a difference in the lives of the world’s children.

On Halloween night in 1950 children across the nation were inspired to collect coins for UNICEF to aid kids recovering from World War II.

Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF pioneered service learning by educating young people about their peers in developing countries all around the world and engaging them in hands-on activities to raise awareness and much needed funds.

According to the green celebrity news website, “Selena’s concert is one of the most exciting elements of the 60th Anniversary of the Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF campaign,” said U.S. Fund for UNICEF President and CEO Caryl Stern.

“As a UNICEF Ambassador Selena has shown that her dedication to children is resolute. I am confident that through her today’s youth will be inspired to become good global citizens.”
