Does Avatar director James Cameron have the hots for Angelina Jolie?

US Magazine began running a funny little short story about Avatar director James Cameron (October 19) — a man who needs no introduction now as a green celebrity since he made the highest grossing film of all time (and it just happened to be a green lifestyle theme movie).

The mastermind behind the artistic vision of the blue Nabu culture and man who cast the warrior diva played by Zoe Saldana has undoubtedly got an eye for beauty.

As such, the site and tabloid mag claim he is (in essence) eying Angelina Jolie as the epitome of grace, timeless elegance, and physical beauty — and claiming she will be super hot in the role of Cleopatra (especially if the movie is made in 3D).

The celebrity gossip tabloid writes:

Does James Cameron have the hots for Angelina Jolie?

In an interview with the New York Times, the 56-year-old director confirms that he’s been in talks to helm a 3-D Cleopatra film starring the 35-year-old actress.

“There’s a Cleopatra project in works, meaning that it’s been in development at Sony. And it’s a subject that’s always fascinated me,” he says, though he points out that no decisions have been finalized.

“But it sounds hot, doesn’t it? I mean, Angelina Jolie and Cleopatra? To me, that’s like a slam dunk,” he continues. “Whether I wind up doing it or not, I think it’s going to be a great project.”

While the thought of James Cameron slam dunking Angelina Jolie makes our tummies a bit queasy, we have to admit he has a point.

No matter how many people get angry that the lead role in Cleopatra — the epic history film remake — is not being played by a black woman… still — it IS being played by Angelina Jolie.

If the real purpose behind all movies is to make art, to have Jolie follow in the footsteps of Elizabeth Taylor rather than literal history might not be such a bad thing.

If Cameron’s artistic vision includes Jolie, let it and her and them be.

The only trouble comes into play if youngsters are told the film is an accurate portrayal of documented and well researched history.
