Actor George Clooney has his name in the headlines related to gay rumors, but this time the movie star seems to have no problem admitting the rumor is true. He will star in a one-night-only theater production that supports gay marriage. Starring in a play by Dustin Lance Black that will be directed by Rob Reiner, he will stand up for LGBT civil rights.
George Clooney has long denied being gay but for one night only he will star in a live stage performance of a play that openly supports gay marriage. “It is astonishing that gay and lesbian Americans are still treated as second-class citizens,” Clooney said in a public statement released to the press. “I am confident that, very soon, the laws of this nation will reflect the basic truth that gay and lesbian people — like all human beings — are born equal in dignity and rights.”
The Wrap (an entertainment news website) reports Clooney will star in a one-night-only production of “8”. The theater production will happen at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre on March 3, 2012.
Directed by Rob Reiner, all proceeds from the LGBT civil rights supporting event will go to the American Foundation for Equal Rights, of which Reiner and play writer Dustin Lance Black are founding members.
The show “8” will be a rendition of the same production that ran in New York City in September of 2011. That production cast boasted other big name Hollywood star celebs like Morgan Freeman, John Lithgow, Ellen Barkin, Christine Lahti, Bradley Whitford, Bob Balaban, Yeardley Smith, Matthew Bomer, and Cheyenne Jackson.
“8”, as a political statement production, dramatizes, “the federal trial that overturned Proposition 8 (the judge in the case ruled Proposition 8 was unconstitutional, though his decision is under appeal)…” reports The Wrap.
On a side note, Clooney, who is romantically linked with professional wrestler Stacy Keibler (a very beautiful girl), has been battling rumors he is gay for years. It seems strange, too, because the world’s most famous bachelor appears to be a serial monogamist who dates some of the world’s most interesting looking women.
Before dating the very tall, blonde celebrity athlete Stacy he dated dark-haired Italian swimsuit model Elisabetta Canalis. They broke up just before she began her appearance on the American version of Dancing With The Stars on ABC. She competed against Chaz Bono (the show’s first transgendered contestant [the former daughter of Cher]) and openly gay fashion designer Carson Kressley. Surprisingly enough, despite her good looks and athleticism, she was kicked off the show far earlier than the men were during DWTS Season 13.
Apart from the play, CNN reports George Clooney will be spending a lot of time in the Los Angeles area for the next few months thanks in part to a busy upcoming awards season.

George Clooney will likely spend a lot of time at the Golden Globes podium next month, considering the number of nominations he and his two movies got Thursday from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
Clooney’s “The Descendants” and “The Ides of March” are nominated nine times, and both films are among the six nominated for best drama. Clooney is also a contender for best actor in a drama for his “Descendants” role and for best director and best screenplay for “The Ides of March.”
Oscar nominations for the films are also expected.
Will gorgeous George eventually come out of the closet if gays are ever allowed the right to marry and to live as equals with other Americans? One hopes that even if he is not gay, he continues to advocate for the LGBT civil rights movement. As a famous humanitarian with tremendous political power and influence, he has been far too quiet about the issue that deeply affects the lives of so many Americans.
