Madonna Super Bowl half time show shows she is a good sport (#SuperBowl)

Pop music singer Madonna took to the stage at the Superbowl in 2012 at the age of 53 and rocked the house. While some football fans were critical that the musical number was not rock-n-roll enough for their taste, many of the music fans who tuned into the game more for the Super Bowl commercials and to see the half time show thought that overall the icon did great. Despite a brief foot slip where she nearly wiped out while lip synching on stage, uptight people giving a critique of the star for an up skirt camera moment that revealed a gold star strategically placed, and a wardrobe malfunction with a robe zipper that made her look as if she had chest hair, the live performance was great. Here’s our “Stupor-bowl” editorial about why people being mean to superstar really ought to give this good sport Material Girl a break.

Madonna Super Bowl Half Time Show 2012Guess we’re getting old, just like my favorite rock stars. More pop than rock, but getting old none the less, Madonna was the musical show at this year’s Super Bowl. Generally speaking the reviews of the half time show has been pretty mixed across social media. To those who spoke negatively of the 53 year pop star using the hashtag #SuperBowl on Twitter during the halftime show of the NFL football game, I have to say chill out and get a life. I’m just one man who loves football and also likes music and I have to say… For all that is expected of a half time performer, I think she did quite well (even if no one else I know thinks she did).

Madonna was really a good sport in my humble opinion. An over choreographed performance of a long career squeezed into 15 minutes would have exhausted anyone trying to dance their way through it — but she did it. And to top it off she had to share the stage with some of today’s modern stars like rappers Nicki Minaj and M.I.A., and crazy party song group LMFAO. That’s not an easy group to mix it up with on a good day — let alone with the pressure of all those screaming football fans while you put together a live TV performance. But, she pulled the whole thing off well (even if her Vogue moves were not quite as crisp as they might have been when she was considerably younger and not totally bored with the hit).

Madonna’a career is pretty impressive as a recording artist, she has established herself as a someone who pushes the boundaries of lyrical content in music and imagery in her music videos to new heights. As a Golden Globe winner, and entrepreneur, Madonna, is one of the most influential women in contemporary music. Madonna has sold more than 200 million albums worldwide and is one of the most successful solo artist in the history of Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Besides being very active in the world of music, Madonna has been very active in giving of her time and money. In 2006, charitable celeb Madonna co-founded Raising Malawi, which helps orphans in one of the poorest countries in the world (Malawi) by providing water, food, medical care and schooling. Besides her own charity Madonna has been very supportive of many other charities relating to children such as Children in Need, Children of Peace, Make-A-Wish Foundation, and UNICEF.

To all the couch potatoes who give her a thumbs down for her half time show we only hope that we can take 15 pressure packed minutes of your life and have 100 million people critique it. But that will probably never happen.

I laughed out loud reading a tweet from one woman who said until all Madonna’s critics posted YouTube videos of themselves doing cartwheels in 5 inch heels that she did not want to hear it.

Just as the Super Bowl is over hyped and over analyzed as a sporting event, the half time show has become just as over hyped and over analyzed in pop music. People need to simply sit back and enjoy the game. During the half time show, refill you glass, get an extra bowl of nachos and sit back and enjoy the music.

Madonna has survived the critics over the years, and has become one of the most successful women in the entertainment business. She should survive a few arm-chair critics after the Super Bowl — especially if the rumors are true that none of the half time headliners get paid.

Rock on Madonna! We love you! Like your younger pal Kelly Osbourne (who tweeted that she was totally excited to see your half time show before you hit the stage) we were tickled pink to see you pull off the multi-generational hit.
