Kim Kardashian without makeup looks very… Girl Next Door?

[Feb. 24]

Kim Kardashian was caught out in public without makeup the other day as she stepped outside in Studio City, California.  The brunette bombshell reality star Kim Kardashian, who is known for her over-the-top use of makeup and otherwise stellar style, looked positively … human, surprising everybody.

The reality star Kim Kardashian has been unmasked in the past for variety of photo shoots without makeup, but there always has been an air of contrivance about it. Clearly Kardashian was modeling at those times — and no… those photos don’t look like this one from Pop Eater (see photo of Kim Kardashian without makeup), but this time she appeared as just another person in the city. It is true:  no makeup, hair in disarray, big dark circles under her eyes, and just (as we said) looking quite normal but still like a hot chick as she chatted on her cell phone.

Regarding being seen in public without her makeup, Kim Kardashian told Celebuzz in May 2010:

I recently did a photo shoot for Life & Style Magazine in which I stripped off all my makeup and went completely bare faced in fornt of the cameras. After doing my naked shoot for Harper’s Bazaar, an experience which left me feeling really empowered and liberated, I felt like it was time to show everyone that I really am comfortable in my own skin and I’m not afraid to be seen without makeup. Just because I get glammed up every day for photo shoots and events doesn’t mean I won’t be seen without it! I hope that this will give some of you guys confidence to go bare faced. You are all beautiful, with or without makeup!

In the quote, the most famous of the Kardashian sisters comes across as a little vain. [Yeah, we have to say it no matter how much we love her.] Sometimes, Kim Kardashian’s critics are right… she’s a green celebrity so we hope they are wrong, but on this point (that she does come across a little better than everyone else — even of her own Kardashian sisters persona — we think they might have credibility.

Makeup need not be a staple, even though it does highlight naturally beautiful features, when worn subtly. Glam looks in Hollywood do not always involve a celebrity makeup style being overdone.

Frankly, though, in this writer’s humble opinion, Kim Kardashian looks quite good naturally. She really doesn’t need the makeup. It was nice to see the face behind Kardashian’s face, and honestly, the look made me do a double take as a man — taking extra time to look at her pics even more inquisitively.

With that said, I am no knocking Kim Kardashian’s makeup routines, even if she does wear as much or more (most of the time) than one of the “ladies” on Ru Paul’s Drag Race.

Of course, makeup has been around for thousands of years, since the Egyptians began using copper and lead ore. Over the centuries, women from all manner of cultures have used various treatments to darken eyes, hide freckles, and aid complexion to appeal to the standards of beauty for a particular place and time.

WebMD notes:

Over the centuries, women used burnt matches to darken their eyes, berries to stain their lips and young boys’ urine to fade their freckles. They even swallowed ox blood in some misguided attempt to improve their complexions.

Women throughout history put their health at risk with many of their homemade cosmetics. In some cultures, for example, women used arsenic, lead, mercury, and even leeches to give themselves the pale appearance deemed beautiful in the old days.

A lot has changed since then. Products are tested rigorously and are much safer. But Kim Kardashian has demonstrated that she’s beautiful with or without makeup, prepared or unprepared for a shoot. If Kardashian’s recent faceless exposure should teach women anything it is as she said in 2010 — women have every right to stand up and be beautiful just as they are. Women do not have to hide behind the makeup mask.

But if you’re going to wear makeup, try going green with organic makeup. There are a number of biodegradable and recyclable products available. You can check some out at Marie Claire.

And don’t worry about needing to go overboard wearing cosmetic products, ladies — because most GUY guys really do a double take whenever they see a pretty girl like Kim Kardashian so we can fantasize she is the girl next door.
