Model Lauren Scruggs maimed in freak airplane accident before Christmas

Donate to the Lauren Scruggs Hope Fund. The founder of LOLO and model was maimed in a tragic airplane propeller accident. Brutally maimed in a tragic airplane propeller accident, she’s in intensive care — fighting for her life, sure to have new challenges to face.

Who is Lauren ScruggsLauren Scruggs might not be a supermodel, but she is a model and well-known blogger. In the past, one of her greatest challenges might have been finding vintage Chanel handbags at consignment shops or working behind the scenes as a wardrobe department assistant to temperamental Hollywood personalities on the set of Gossip Girl. Now, her family and close personal friends are asking people to donate to the Lauren Scruggs Hope Fund using http://www.paypal.com to the email address attention: laurenscruggshopefund@gmail.com.

While stepping out of a private plane after taking a recreational flight to see the area’s local Christmas lights from the sky, Lauren took a few steps back on the tarmac to, as she intended, thank a friend — the pilot. Not realizing the airplane propeller was still spinning, she was viciously slashed by the blade reports Hollywood Life.

With the darkness camouflaging the airplane’s propeller, the circular chop caused a terrible head injury first — followed by a facial strike that seems to have done intense damage to the left eye, a continued slash down through the neck and shoulder, and mauled her hand so badly that the surgeons were unable to save it.

From beautiful girl to accident victim, Lauren will face enormous challenges that range from how to recover from a TBI (like Gabby Giffords) to understanding some of the same emotions actor JR Martinez has to face. While he was badly disfigured when his body was burned, she will have to undergo many of the same plastic surgery experiences he has over the years while the surgeons attempt to reconstruct her face.

What is almost more painful to hear is that Lauren, an avid blogger and Twitter user, has lost her hand. Our deepest sympathies go out to her, as she will surely be frustrated typing her story in the future while learning to live as an amputee.

However, we have faith that through Lauren’s faith in God and good will that she will recover — and that her story, though tragic, will only be one that serve to become an inspiration for years to come for all who know and love her.

With her family by her side, we hope she will not only thrive but also survive.

Lauren Scruggs, before the accident, described herself as the Editor-in-Chief of @LOLOmagazine, a “Blog fanatic… Health nut… Smitten w/style, organic anything, spontaneity, fashion, culture, travel, writing.”

Her favorite prayer? A passage from the Bible found in Ephesians 3:14-21:

… I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height—to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

For that reason, today — because she is a person of good will intent who finds herself in the hour of need — our prayers and thoughts for grace and ease while healing go out for her. And today, this writer (for one) finds herself especially grateful for only having to deal with something so trite as having a touch of carpal tunnel syndrome and figuring out my gluten sensitivity appears to be getting worse this holiday season. [Yes, I am mourning the loss of being able to eat all my favorite Christmas cookies and have been whining about not being able to type comfortably.]

To that end, gracious readers, thank god for the little things… and please, if you are looking for ideas for Christmas this holiday season, do considering charitable giving. Lauren, you have money waiting in your new PayPal account from @greencelebrity.
