Cool Cars! In the world of motor sports, there is nothing more bad ass looking than a serious 4 x 4 truck or monster car.
Here’s one cool car you have to see to believe. A custom dune buggy that looks like the cast of the big screen blockbuster movie Waterword finally found dry land. Somehow, this vehicle looks like actor Kevin Costner in his gill breathing ear boy costume should be stepping out onto the desert sand from behind the wheel. Or perhaps one of the Smokers who ran with the Dennis Hopper ‘ole crazy one eye mask. At any rate — here it is… your strange news cool car photo of the day.
What is a Dune Buggy?
A dune buggy is a special four wheel drive vehicle designed to carry passengers across rough and dry desert type terrains. Very often, drivers will “four wheel” these 4×4 vehicles up and over steep hills and sand dunes while having fun and exploring the outdoors for the day.
While dune buggies can be seriously fun to 4 wheel in, drivers must take great care not to run over or destroy native plants in their natural habitat. There is a new trend in four wheeling — for dune buggy racing, Baja sports (where buggies are designed to go at high speeds for long distances), and even rock crawling (where trucks are built to climb rocky and mountainous terrain at slow speeds) — to actually take care of the natural environment where these monster cars and monster truck look celebrity look alike vehicles play.
People hosting 4 x 4 racing events will take great care to protect the natural terrain by laying out courses that avoid plants, trees, bushes, and cactus that might otherwise have been run over by aggressive racers in earlier days.
Many of these same 4 x 4 enthusiasts work hard to preserve and protect the environment and get very upset is spectators disturb or otherwise damage the natural habitat or environment where they are allowed to drive and play. Many groups of drivers and “spotters” (folks who stand outside the vehicle to help guide the trucks and buggies successfully over or through tough obstacles where drive lines and tire placement are crucial to avoid roll overs) will team up at the end of the day to clean up any of the mess a drive team or their camping families have made.
The goal of most racers is to leave as little footprint on the local habitat as they can while still being able to enjoy making tire tracks along the way. There are also 4×4 parks for dune buggy racing and rock crawling now that have sprung up as private green business endeavors that bring truck enthusiasts into once localized mane made area where they can test their driving skills and compete in 4 x 4 racing challenges.
GREEN CELEBRITY STATS: KEVIN COSTNER
Kevin Costner is a car guy, but he does not drive a Prius. Actually, he owns a fleet of Audi cars, which he says he enjoys driving completely. While we have not met too many “cool” audi drivers who are into protecting the environment, Kevin Costner did in fact invest in a company after the the filming of Waterworld that makes a portable flotation unit designed to help separate oil from water. Believe it or not, when the oil spill happened back in 2010, Costner actually was able to sell a handful of the machines to BP — which was great for him because he actually invested $22 million of his own green cash dollars into the R&D for the project. He’s in a bit of hot water now, as he is being sued by actor Steven Baldwin (that guy who starred with actor and comedian Pauly Shore in the hilarious eco movie Biodome)– who says Kevin Costner pulled him in as an investor then misled him to selling out his shared early (believing the company had tanked). Baldwin, who filed a very public bankruptcy, was pissed. He hopes to re-gain some of his lost fortune he would have made in profit as a share holder when Costner sold the oil and water separator units to British Petroleum. So — when the chips were down, Costner became a Smoker? Interesting celebrity trivia for anyone interested in the history of Hollywood.
