Chis Harrison is the host of the hit television series The Bachelor and also The Bachelorette. In a recent celebrity interview he confessed the two people he most wants to have on the show as competitors are actor George Clooney and actress Jennifer Aniston. Hoping to make a love match for the celebrity singles, he thinks he can help the two find real love if they come on the show as the featured seasonal special guests. But wait a minute… aren’t the two star celebs already in committed relationships? Why in the world would he want them to break up their respective relationship to be on television?
The idea is ridiculous. Reality TV host Chris Harrison, host of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, has said that his ultimate choices for Bachelor and Bachelorette are George Clooney and Jennifer Aniston. Digital Spy reported that the host of the television reality show all about finding that one true love could help.
But George Clooney, who claimed he would never marry again after his split from wife Talia Balsam in 1993, is dating WWE star celeb Stacy Keibler.The two have been photographed all over the world together.
For that matter, Jennifer Aniston is dating Justin Theroux. The two have been living together and bouncing back and forth between New York and California.
So why is the reality television host trying to break up their otherwise happy relationships?
“[Clooney] is the ultimate and most unattainable bachelor… and I think Jennifer Aniston has been so troubled in love, so she would be a perfect candidate,” Harrison told CNN.
[Uh, right. Good luck with making that happen IRL, Chris.]
His quote, even if said in jest, comes across like Harrison WANTS the two star celebs to fail miserably in their current individual love relationships. It makes him look desperate to have a promotional hook for ABC’s hit series, The Bachelor, now flailing about like a fish on a dock gasping for air during its 16th season.
The suggestion any person should break up with whoever they are with to come hook up on a reality TV show that promotes matchmaking is downright ludicrous. Of course, it doesn’t help that Harrison may be reduced to grasping at straws to up ratings since the show cast Ashley Hebert as last season’s Bachelorette. Ratings for the show have dropped over recent years, culminating in an all-time low with its most recent season of The Bachelor, featuring Ashley H’s The Bachelorette reject, Ben Flajnik.
The two green celebrities (Clooney and Aniston) might make a good match on paper and get big headlines in the tabloid press — so we understand where Chris Harrison is getting this…
After all, George Clooney is considered to be one of the most charitable and caring people in Hollywood, having founded the Not on Our Watch organization with his Ocean’s 11 co-stars, Don Cheadle, Matt Damon, and Brad Pitt. He’s also on the Board of Trustees for United Way. Jennifer Aniston, meanwhile, is no stranger to charity. Having supported well over a dozen different charitable endeavors regularly, the star celeb actress has ties to Feeding America, Habitat for Humanity, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Undoubtedly the two as a pair could do a great deal of humanitarian work together (in addition to making a steamy hot celebrity couple).
But STILL…
While it’s entirely likely that such a matching would make television gold, Harrison’s misguided matchmaking reveals a motive that is far from altruistic. Although he claims that the show is about finding love, skeptics would disagree, citing the number of couples brought together by the show that have since split, like Brad Womack and Emily Maynard.

So what’s the motive behind Harrison pushing the idealistic premise of his show to the general public and trying to drag committed celebrity contestants names into the singles mix?
CNN said:
“It’s escapism, and something everybody wants, which is a relationship,” [Harrison] explained. “Because everybody wants love and we enjoy seeing it.”
As much as famous celebrities want love like anyone else, they probably aren’t in the same boat as everyone else, hoping an appearance on Bachelor will earn them a paycheck and some notoriety as well as (maybe) love. We think these two green celebrities are already well on their way and probably can find love on their own — without the help of matchmaker Chris Harrison. And we wish them the best in their current love matches (noting it really is their business who they decide to be with in the end, just like the rest of us non-famous humans).
To that end, Chris Harrison really ought to do his homework by watching a few of the entertainment news shows on television or reading a few more headlines on the internet before he casts out any more names of star celebs while fishing for guests. If he needs to use famous names to get his show and the ABC network free press, at the very least he ought to mention celebrities who are not dating anyone the world knows about yet.
