Charitable Giving Update: Haiti one year after shock of first earthquake islanders still need help

Charitable Giving Update: Haiti

One year after the 7.3 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti, destroying vast portions of Port-au-Prince and other portions of the island nation the International Red Cross agencies have issued reports on the efforts to provide food, water, shelter and disaster relief. Through charitable giving, donations from around the world have been used to aid the earthquake victims and the efforts continue.

The real heroes of the disaster relief for Haiti’s earthquake victims are everyday people who sent checks, did collections or texted Haiti to send just ten dollars at a time. All these donations to organizations such as the Red Cross have been working hard to provide food, shelter, clean water and a slow but true return to life.

On this the first year anniversary of the 7.3 magnitude earthquake and aftershocks which destroyed vast portions of Haiti the IFRC released their analysis of the first year of support provided and set their future goals to meet.

Elizabeth Edwards Will: What John Edwards estranged wife really thought of him her final days?

Elizabeth Edwards Will!

The will revealed, signed in Elizabeth Edwards final days, presents a very different picture than the rosy one John Edwards press camp wanted to spin for future political reasons.

Green Celebrity Spotlight: Shine On Eco Friendy Author Emilio Estefan (Rhythm of Success Book Review)

Green Celebrity Spotlight!

Author Emilio Estefan’s new book on sustainability a success according to eco friendly readers —

[Jan. 5]

I just finished reading a great book by Emilio Estefan called the Rhythm of Success.

Emilio Estefan’s name may not sound familiar to you. However, I’ll bet that Gloria Estefan does sound very familiar. Emilio is her husband and for many years her manager. The two have a huge name in the music industry, however, their company, Estefan Enterprises, also has real estate holdings. This is why I chose to highlight Emilio. He makes a commitment to “get into the habit of recycling and using only what we need-and preserving the rest or giving it to someone who needs it…”

Estefan Enterprises makes a concerted effort to use sustainable practices in their buildings, in fact one of their 30 businesses is the Costa d’ Este in Vero Beach, Florida and it is LEED certified. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.

Green isn’t limited to building though. It can be about any manufacturing process and even music. Borrowing from another musician, Will-I-Am, it’s a “little bit of old, and a bigger bit of New”.

The book Rhythm of Success was recommended to me by a friend who knows that I am ALL about the environment, energy conservation, improvement, investing, growth and learning.

I picked up the book and immediately fell in love with it! I hope you pick it up too.

It’s too late for Christmas but perhaps it can be a Three Kings day gift.
