Japanese Tsunami Dog reunited with owner but more pets and their owners need help?

[Apr. 7]

Following the 9.0 earthquake in Japan, the highest ever recorded in the nation’s history, the tsunami that devastated Japan left at least one dog alive. Nicknamed Tsunami Dog, the Japanese tsunami dog located a couple of miles off the coast of Japan, floating atop a roof amid the debris of a home, has been reunited with its owner.

From USA Today:

The unidentified owner, a woman in her 50s, saw a TV news report about the Japan Coast Guard’s rescue Friday and went to the animal care center in Tomiya, Miyagi Prefecture, NHK TV says.

The Japanese tsunami dog was rescued by the Coast Guard, three weeks after the tsunami devastated Japan. The tsunami dog was found floating nearly two miles out to sea after the devastating tsunami struck Japan, killing 20,000 people. The reports say the dog, a mixed breed named “Ban” was reunited with its owner, an unidentified woman, age 50.

The Seattle Times notes:

Several weeks after Japan’s devastating earthquake and tsunami, a loose network of pet groups is working to provide many of the services for stranded and stressed animals that emergency services have been providing for people, including food, medicine and shelter.

Tsunami Dog is just one of the pets rescued following the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Some people have questioned the resources used to find pets instead of people, The Seattle Times reports, but others have said that those people who have lost homes and livelihoods following the tsunami are grateful to have their pets, which help the people reduce anxiety as they care for those animals they love.

Celebrity Moms: Mariska Hargitay newly adopted baby girl named by son?

Celebrity Moms!

Television actress Mariska Hargitay let young son August name his newly adopted baby sister —

[Apr. 7]

Get ready to make that big AWWWW sound. There have been some big decisions in actress Mariska Hargitay’s house this month. According to the Hollywood Reporter, “The Law & Order: Special Victims Unit actress told People magazine that both her husband, Peter Hermann, and four-year-old son, August, helped to name their adopted one-week old addition to the family.”

Hargitay reports their choice in baby girl names are officially Amaya Josephine, which she revealed to the press was adapted from Hargitay’s favorite girl’s name, Maya, by her young son.

The lovely television star said her son actually came up with the name, and that she was pleased with the choice because now the two children have the same initials.

“I like that name, but I wanted her to have the same initials as August,” the actress said. “I thought adding the ‘A’ was so feminine. Amaya sounded so open and feminine and beautiful — just like her.”

Big brother is very proud of his newly adopted little sister, and the two are expected to bond quickly as siblings.

As a green celebrity, Mariska Hargitay plays a strong female lead role on SVU — a TV show that tackles the tough issue of victims and their families who survive or suffer the loss of family members due to sexually motivated crimes.

Often seen on camera and off advocating for victims rights, women’s rights, and standing up for all that is right and good, Mariska Hargitay is one of the brightest female stars in Hollywood in our book.

Will she raise her new daughter as a green baby — and keep her family green kids eco-friendly? We hope so!

Congratulations to all on the new family member… she surely makes a great addition and it is so nice to hear that her big brother already includes the little sister as part of his life with mommy and daddy.

A+ parenting. 😉

Mother-Daughter Reality TV series casting call by Jersey Shore creators?

Reality Television News!

Casting Call opens for new Mother-Daughter Reality TV series —

[Apr. 7]

The creators of Jersey Shore have issued a casting call for a new Mother-Daughter reality television series, and if you think Snooki, JWOWW, and The Situation are bad — just wait until you see the mom and daughter pairs they hope to dredge up! Jerry Springer auditions ought to slow down if this reality TV show revs up. Details below.

How likely is it that the new show will feature any eco-friendly celebrities? Not very. However, simply due to the ridiculous factor, we half way expect there to be pampered pets that make an appearance at some point with at least one pet friendly mom or soon-to-be celebrity kids.

We also hope that no matter how crazy the AND SHE’S YOUR MOM show gets that it will have a bit of the Housewives flair, in that moms with means typically will c=participate in some way raising funds for charity.

Keep your fingers crossed, GCN readers, that they elect to feature divas of decadence who hold fund-raisers at local country clubs more than tarts from trailer parks who don’t go farther than the local pub. Since the Judds were already taken by the Oprah Winfrey Network, it will be interesting to see if any star celeb moms and Hollywood starlet girls audition for this casting call.
