MTV is the music television channel. The cable TV network has its corporate finger on the pulse of the entertainment news industry though, and as a major player in Hollywood hosts it own awards show. Called the MTV Movie Awards, the MTV network takes public interest surveys and reviews box office results and decides which Hollywood films — blockbuster or not — are worthy of the coveted popcorn trophy they bestow. In their decision-making process, they also nominate actors and actresses who were fan favorites (very much unlike the Oscars and very much like the Peoples Choice Awards). MTV Video Music Awards honor musicians who produce spectacular video; however the movie awards night really is all about the big time box office theater shows. Movie series like the Twilight Sage have proven to be the biggest winners of fan votes the past few years, and the star celebs in them have pretty much cleaned up when it came time to take home the MTV Movie Awards. Video releases of new movie trailers or box office hit films that remind viewers why individual films were nominated or hype a new movie coming out are a big hit. At the 2011 MTV Movie Awards, the big news of the night was actually more about trivia like the fact Justin Bieber was a no-show and that the media got their hands on a copy of the Twilight Wedding Invitation used in the filming of the new Twilight movie Breaking Dawn.
Young Selena Gomez got razzed for being in a month-long lip lock with Justin Beiber and warned to be careful about her help — the host Jason Sudeikis [famous from his gig on SNL and as Floyd on 30 Rock] joked the Disney princess had already swallowed three of Justin Bieber’s baby teeth. Selena Gomez — there at the awards show solo without the Biebs — looked none too pleased. The new joking nickname for Justin Bieber after all the celebrity couple’s Memorial Day Weekend public displays of affection emerged in a Twitter hashtag #JustinBoober.
Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner were in the audience. And speaking of boobs, the intro for Best Male Perfromance was hilarious. Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis jokes about best male perfromance (and his manhood) were priceless as adult humor [but parents winded and hoped too many kids were not watching]. When Rpatz won, he pretended to be embarrassed. On stage in a clack blazer, plaid shirt, slacks, and old ratty tennis shoes he quipped he almost looked like he was crying in the movie clip. Lautner and Stewart laughed in the Audience. Online, the buzz was about the Twilight movie Breaking Dawn and the sneak peek of the wedding invitation for Bella Swan and Edward Cullen leaving off the names of the fictional couple’s parents.
Next up, the cast of Super 8 gave a world exclusive sneak peek of the film. Stephen Spielberg was even on stage. But by that point in the evening, the only thing fans cared about what why was the Biebs a no-show in Los Angeles? Oddly enough, Justin Bieber tweeted a request for privacy that same day. Hmmmm. Very interesting.
With that, the winner of Best Villain was announced — and guess who? Tom Felton from Harry Potter. And then came Jim Carrey as an old dog up to new tricks with his cutting edge technology. The suit he wore allowed a bunch of normal and obnoxious video clips to be projected for the viewing audience. Introducing the Foo Fighters and proclaiming Foo could be some pretty nasty stuff, the rockers took the stage and gave the audience a knock out perfromance. The best part? Seeing young Emma Watson wearing a demure but from-fitting white dress clapping her hands and totally rocking out in the audience.
But guess what! Just when fans thought there was NO WAY Justin Bieber was at the event and poor Selena Gomez would spend the whole night on the red carpet alone — out came the green celebrity humanitarian and pet friendly PETA supported to accept the Jaw Dropping award. Good from, Biebs. Good from.

But the very best part of the night? Robert Pattinson full on mouth kissed actor Taylor Lautner after RPatz and Kristen Stewart kissing beat out Taylor Lautner kissing Kristen Stewart to win the Best Movie Kiss award. Or maybe it was the censor failing to edit out when Robert Pattinson announced he had some something very naughty with Generation Award winner Reese Witherspoon in a remark that left even Chelsea Handler speechless.
