Angelina Jolie News!

Competitive Hollywood actress Kate Winslet the new celebrity face of St. John Knits?

[May 4]

Get ready to roll your eyes, Angelina Jolie fans. Remember Angie was the celebrity spokesperson for the luxury fashion designer St. John — but she got fired (essentially) for not fitting the target demographic market as well as the company had hoped? She was replaced by Karen Elson at St. John, the model who took over as the face of the label from Angelina Jolie. But that girl never gave the brand much horsepower in Hollywood and quite frankly just scored a major modeling coup doing a campaign for Louis Vuitton. So what was St. John fashion house to do? They turned to another movie star to up their sales with the Hollywood crew. Actress Kate Winslet will allegedly be the famous face that will replace Angelina Jolie stand in Karen Elson as the face of comfortable luxury.

Catwalk Queen writes:

Small world, huh?

Winslet will back up her LancĂ´me gig by fornting the Autumn 2011 campaign.

The ads, which are due to break in September, will be photographed by Craig McDean this Thursday in New Jersey, according to WWD.

It’s another major coup for the British actress, who also represents Longines watches.

Kate Winslet has a long history and strange fascination with snubbing actress Angelina Jolie. Like, for instance, when she snubbed Angie back in 2009, forgetting her name during an awards acceptance speech where she named all the other nominees but forgot — and claimed to not remember — Angelina Jolie’s name during an awards acceptance speech.

Winslet, who won two awards at the Los Angeles ceremony, momentarily referred to Jolie as “the other one” while acknowledging her fellow nominees for best actress.

At the time, Telegraph UK reported:

Overcome by winning the award for Best Actress, the 33-year-old British star was breathless when she took to the stage to accept the surprise award, for her portrayal of a frustrated suburban housewife in Revolutionary Road.

She remembered nominees Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep and Kristin Scott Thomas – but forgot the 33-year-old Changeling star.

“I’m so sorry Anne, Meryl, Kristin – and who’s the other one? Angelina. Now forgive me, is this really happening?” she blurted.

But many felt her remarks were phony and designed to rub in the fact she had defeated other great actresses and the one she felt should not have been included on the list of nominees. [Which was absurd, really — if she did mean to imply Angelina Jolie could be dismissed so easily — as the green celebrity was superb in Changeling and is a Hollywood icon for both her beauty and talent acting as well as for her humanitarian deeds.]
