The new celebrity hairstyle trend for 2012 seems to have been set back in 2011 when actress Sandra Bullock showed up on the red carpet looking like a hobo woman (deprived of a mirror) who had cut her own hair with kindergarten scissors. Her long, heavy bangs looked positively awful on her back then and they look equally bad on star celebs styling their hair that way now. Here’s a list of celebrity hairstylist’s victims to date…
Celebrity hairstyle alert — Rachel McAdams will be having a bad hair day for quite some time. Why? Because she will be growing out ridiculous looking bangs.
In Style magazine gleefully proclaimed, “2012 is shaping up to be a big year for bangs! Rachel McAdams unveiled blunt fringe at the Los Angeles premiere of The Vow last night, while Liv Tyler and Sarah Michelle Gellar also debuted their updated hairstyles this week. In addition, Reese Witherspoon and Taylor Swift both stepped out with layered fringe recently.”
Even reality television star Kim Kardashian seems to have been sucked in to the trend, getting bangs cut as the new look for celebrities to mimic for her New Years Eve Party at Tao in Las Vegas. For gosh sakes, didn’t women learn not to cut bangs after seeing bangs on actress Angelina Jolie in her promo posters for The Tourist?
But websites like In Style make these looks sound popular. Are they simply sucking up to Hollywood hair stylists? While trying to saying nice things about what those people have done to these beautiful women so they can get more interviews they are doing women all across America a disservice by making them think cutting their hair would be a good idea.
Sharing pictures of each of the hot women, the online gossip magazine that specializes in talking about fashion trends revealed what seems to be shaping up to be nothing less than the celebrity hairstyle tragedy of 2012. Not only are the new bang shapes unflattering on most of the women, they really make the older ones look like they are using clip in bangs while striving to make themselves look like little girls.
There are two words to describe the celebrity bangs phenomenon of 2012 — EPIC FAIL.
Ladies, if you are thinking about cutting bangs into your flowing long locks so you have your hairstyle looking up to par for trends in Hollywood, don’t.
Just look up Jessica Simpson bangs on eBay or the internet. She and her hair stylist Ken Paves make clip in bangs that can be dyed right along with your natural hair color for special events if you really, really, really feel like imitating a youthful Justin Bieber or one of the 1960s members of The Beatles.
Actress Sandra Bullock was one of the first women in Hollywood to be conned into having bangs cut in her hair last year. She appeared at one of the awards shows looking like she’s been mugged by a hair styling hermit. It was a real shocker to see as she has always been and remains one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood. But nothing could be more surprising that to see other star celebs conned into cutting their hair and wearing the same haircut that made her look so woefully misguided and aged back then, now.
The long bangs or any bangs that create a heavy bang look are just as hard to pull off with a haircut as the Betty Paige super short bangs the pin-up girls wear are for most women or teen girls. You have to have the right fave to make them look anything else but dated, trendy, like helmet hair, and ridiculous.
If you are not into wearing fake hair, human hair wigs, or any sort of clip in bang accessory, just take a long lock of hair from your temple and sweep it across to tuck with a neutral colored bobby pin behind the opposite ear. Cross a second piece the opposite direction and pin tuck if you want to visually look as if you have a center part with bangs there.
That way you can try it before you cut your hair.
For those women who want to be ambitious about cutting their hair, we recommend the Pixie Haircut made famous in recent headlines by Harry Potter actress Emma Watson.
Not only does short hair suit her lifestyle as an eco-friendly celebrity (because it is a wash and wear style that requires very little hair product), women who cut bangs short in this radical way [cutting off their luscious locks] can donate their hair to charity. Her look was also reported to be far more popular than any of the recent haircuts on actress Jennifer Aniston.
While no one recommends women go bald like Sex And The City actress Cynthia Nixon (who recently shaved her head to play a cancer victim in a stage production), you can cut your hair short like Emma Watson and have enough length to donate. The charity to ask any hair stylist about before they come at you with a pair of scissors is called Locks Of Love.
Guidelines for acceptable hair donations from the charity website include:
- Hair that is colored or permed is acceptable.
- Hair cut years ago is usable if it has been stored in a ponytail or braid.
- Hair that has been bleached (usually this refers to highlighted hair) is not usable. If unsure, ask your stylist. We are not able to accept bleached hair due to a chemical reaction that occurs during the manufacturing process. **If the hair was bleached years ago and has completely grown out it is fine to donate.
- Hair that is swept off of the floor is not usable because it is not bundled in a ponytail or braid.
- Hair that is shaved off and not in a ponytail or braid is not usable. If shaving your head, first divide hair into multiple ponytails to cut off.
- We cannot accept dreadlocks. Our manufacturer is not able to use them in our children’s hairpieces. We also cannot accept wigs, falls, hair extensions or synthetic hair.
- Layered hair is acceptable if the longest layer is 10 inches.
- Layered hair may be divided into multiple ponytails.
- Curly hair may be pulled straight to measure the minimum 10 inches.
- 10 inches measured tip to tip is the minimum length needed for a hairpiece.
They make human hair wigs that are donated to women and little girls who are going through radiation and chemo therapy procedures to cure cancer and related illnesses; medical treatments to save their lives oftentimes cause people to lose their hair.
Please, for the love of god ladies… run (do not walk) to the nearest hair salon exit if someone comes near your hair to cut bangs with scissors. Or better yet, STEAL the scissors and run with them. Any injury you get from it will hurt far less than the pain you feel while looking back at pictures of yourself from the “big bang year”.
